EMOTIONALLY RICH, HEIRLOOM IMAGES

My photography is a glimpse into the heart and tells the story of the personalities of the people that mean the most to you and the wonderful and unique way you relate to each other.  It celebrates the stories of those we love.   My goal is to recognize the nature of relationships, the emotional connection between family members, lovers or friends, elicit it and capture it in a beautiful and touching image.  Then memorialize it in a heirloom print  that can be passed down through the generations.

In the above images I sought to capture some of the many forms taken by love.  The second shot, the standard couple shot, shows how love can be a comfortable, peaceful, easy feeling.  A far cry from  American Gothic, the painting of the stoic couple with the pitchfork. The next  image shows it can exhibit playfulness.  The next,  the joy and fun from just being together. The fifth is about how love is also  a deep, powerful connection.  The last, perhaps one of the rarer occurring expressions of love, that of tenderness.  At some point, everyone needs to give or receive it. In childhood or adulthood even the hardest of people find this emotion in their lives.  It was inspired by the emotional description of a former soldier who told about holding his dying comrade in his arms on the battlefield.  Although it is more rare than the other emotions, it is none the less often more powerful and is a long remembered and cherished memory.   It represents the nurturing and tenderness one person bestows on another who needs it. 

These images are in black and white because it has been said when you photograph a person in color, you photo their clothes, but when you photograph in black and white you photograph their soul.  Here, it is faces and hands that convey the emotion. 

My work differs from others because of the influence of my background in literature, creative writing and psychology as well as decades of study of photography, painting, film, theater, history and music that prepare me to recognize each person's  unique story and  be able to elicit that then capture it in a powerful and touching manner .  These are not just emotionless, recognizable images.  

What is the value of such images?  They are worth the least the day I deliver them and every day thereafter they become more and more valuable.  Imagine if you could go back 20 or 30 years and take photos with parents, siblings or loved ones with this much emotional content.  What would they be worth to you today? Priceless? That is what you are creating today photographing with me.
